Needle fish penetrated the neck of an Indonesian boy

The Indonesian boy, Muhammad Idol, was fishing with his father when he was surprised by something he had not expected: a needle fish jumped out of the water and stabbed him in the neck.

The British newspaper "Daily Mail" reported on its website, Thursday, that the incident took place a few days ago off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

Muhammad was seriously injured, requiring urgent surgery, which lasted about two hours.

Pictures of the perforated mouth of the fish showed perforation of his neck, on one side, to exit from the other side of the neck, and the fish remained stuck in his body, until it was removed in hospital.

The doctor involved in the operation, Servi Aref, said the operation was accurate to remove the fish from the neck that contains a large artery.

The 16-year-old Indonesian boy has gradually recovered from the injury, but has not been discharged from hospital due to the fever he has suffered, and doctors say they are waiting for the fever to subside.

Khurmia belongs to what is known as "needle fish" due to its long tubular shape and slim body, and this fish is widely spread in coastal waters.

It is famous for being adept at leaping from water at speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
