Extremist gunmen from Al-Shabaab killed 3 teachers in an attack in eastern Kenya, local police said on Monday.

The gunmen attacked the Kamuth Center in Garissa County, set fire to a police station and attempted to destroy a communications tower, according to the police report seen by the Associated Press.

The report stated that 3 teachers were killed and another kidnapped, while the gunmen left a nurse.

Al-Shabaab has vowed revenge against Kenya, which has been part of the African Union force in Somalia since 2011, to fight the militants.

The group carried out several attacks in Kenya, killing hundreds.

The pro-al-Qaeda group attacked earlier this month a military base used by Kenyan and American forces, killing 3 Americans and destroying a number of aircraft and other equipment.
