Dubai records 16.7 million tourists in 2019

Dubai aims to attract more than 23 million tourists by 2025

The Dubai government said the number of foreign visitors to the emirate increased 5.1 percent to 16.7 million in 2019, thanks to a jump in Chinese tourists.

Tourism is an important contributor to the economy of the emirate of Dubai, which will host the World Expo 2020 in October and target 20 million tourists this year.

According to a statement from the media office of the Dubai government, nearly two million Indians visited Dubai last year, compared to more than two million visitors in 2018.

The number of Chinese visitors jumped 15.5 percent to 989,000.

India, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the Sultanate of Oman, China and Russia came as the largest sources of Dubai's tourism market in 2019 and together accounted for more than seven million visitors.
