Bassam Radi, a spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, says that the base that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi opened on Wednesday morning reflects the philosophy of the political leadership and the general leadership of the armed forces in building military bases.

The opening, which was broadcast live on Egyptian TV, was attended by a number of ministers, senior statesmen and the armed forces, as well as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Radi explained that the establishment of the Bernice base comes within Egypt's future vision 2030, talking about some of its characteristics that we are reviewing as follows:

It includes a naval base, air base, military hospital, a number of combat and administrative units, and fields of shooting and training for all weapons.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed attended the opening ceremony.

- The base includes a commercial berth, a passenger receiving station, multi-purpose berths, general cargo berths, container storage berths and yards, as well as Berenice International Airport and a seawater desalination plant.

The strategic goal of establishing the Bernice military base is to protect and secure the Egyptian southern coasts, protect economic investments and natural resources, and face security challenges within the Red Sea.

Among its tasks is to secure global navigation traffic through the axis of movement from the Red Sea to the Suez Canal and the associated economic areas.
